Do you brew a proper pot of tea or just throw a teabag in a cup and put it in the microwave? How do you ?
I am interested in learning how to make that perfect pot of tea, I expect some really good answers from the English as they are experts I am told. I have learned to combine different teas.
I'm not a tea expert, but I ordered a bunch of loose tea (All flavored black) and some tea envelop/bag things. When I want to make a single cup, I boil water, put about half a tablespoon of leaves in one of the bags, and then pour the hot water into a mug with the tea bag... then steep for 7 minutes. (It's a bit on the long side, but it works for my teas.) If I'm making more, I use a kettle that has a metal mesh infuser. My kettle can't go on the stove, so I boil the water first, put the tea in the infuser (1/2 tablespoon to 1 tablespoon...) and then add water and steep.
To make a good tea, the steeping time is essential. Too short and you don't get all the flavor, too long and you burn the leaves and it can make your tea turn bitter.
For a black, dark oolong and herbal tea it's recommended to use boiling water and to steep for 5 minutes. (Dark oolong can go for 7 mins) Green, light oolong and white teas, use much cooler water (A good rule of thumb is when it starts to simmer) and only steep for three minutes.
