Why does my RES blow bubbles from her mouth?
I've read about blowing bubbles from their nose which means a respiratory infection but mine blows bubbles from her mouth. It's like she takes a deep breath and blows really hard and a stream of bubbles go out. She's only done this twice in 2 weeks. She sometimes blows just a couple bubbles from her mouth too every now and then when she opens her mouth under water. Is this a bad sign or is this just a sign of a silly, happy turtle?
The bubbles rise to the surface and pop and are very clear. You can see right through them.
The "bad" bubbles you are reading about are not bubbles that appear when the turtle is under water...they are bubbles that you see when the turtle is on dry land and breathing. When they blow bubbles and are on dry land, it can often be a sign that they have pneumonia or other respiratory ailments...it's the mucous and such that is making the bubbles.
Bubbles that you are seeing under water are just air, like you or I could blow out while swimming. Turtles, like people can breathe through the mouth or the nose, and if they exhale under water it shows up as bubbles. Mine doesn't do it a lot, but occasionally he does it when he's submerging.
